I will never forget the testimony of George Brown, Holocaust Survivor from Hungary, and the privations he overcame to leave as victorious a life as he could.
I remember when he gave a talk at North Torrance High School in 2005.
He survived Auschwitz. He was only 16 years old.
He acknowledged that he went completely mad after his release from the camps. "I was totally crazy. I hated everybody."
Then he followed it with: "Now, I love everybody!"
The applause from the mostly student-body audience was refreshing and exhilarating. There was such, such hope in the gym! The students and the stuff loved his calm joy and charm. He was not lying to them, that was certain.
You can watch another video of his testimony here.
