Liberty Counsel: Therapy Saved His Life ... But Now It's Banned?!

Exposure to “gay p*rn” and sexual molestation at a young age sent Ken Williams into a spiral that nearly led him to take his own life. The guilt, shame and hopelessness of a homosexual lifestyle tore the young man’s soul. But a wise Christian counselor was able to save Ken’s life and set him on the road to redemption. Years have now gone by, and Ken is happily married to a woman he met at church. The soul-searing emptiness he once felt has been replaced with joy, a wife, and four children. But that never would have happened. In fact, Ken says he likely would not be alive today had it not been for Christian change counseling. The rabid LGBTQ mob has compelled 87 cities and states around the country to BAN Christian counseling for unwanted same-sex attractions and gender confusion. Every day these bans are in place, young men and women are at risk. Liberty Counsel is fighting to save them. Read on. — MatSupport our legal work overturning unjust Christian counseling bans, and have your gift DOUBLED in impact by a special challenge grant. As Ken’s story shows, our work is saving lives. Please, give today.

Arthur,Imagine being chained in a personal prison of unbearable despair. Someone you know has the keys to set you free, but the government has forbidden them from helping you. That’s the situation many “gender confused” children and adults are facing, thanks to 87 bans on Christian counseling across the nation.

Set the captives free with your gift today.

Ken Williams knows the trauma all too well. Ken says he was the “scrawniest” kid in every class from kindergarten through high school.Bigger boys on the playground made fun of Ken’s small size, calling him “faggot” and “homo.” Ken soon learned to stay away from any situation that might lead him to be alone with the other boys. “I distanced myself from most boys—definitely the rough and tumble ones—and canceled the masculinity around me as best as I could.”At 8 years old, Ken was exposed to “gay p*rn” and sexually molested.“I was desperately confused by the experiences and, from there, lived with overwhelming shame that I kept hidden for the next ten years,” Ken says.“But my need for masculine connection grew stronger, the more I pushed it away,” Ken says. “While I rejected the brash, masculine stereotypical guy, I actively sought out whichever male peer I deemed to be strong who was also kind. If he showed me attention or affirmation, I felt valuable. If I could have his undivided attention, I was okay for the minute.”“By middle school, I was experiencing same-sex attraction, which caused me to hate myself all the more because I didn’t want to have those desires. I developed one unhealthy friendship after the next through my teens, trying to find myself in each young man.” It was “[c]odependency, plain and simple,” Ken says. “But no matter how much time or attention I received from a guy, it never was enough, even in the times it turned sexual. My ‘friend’ would head home for the evening, and I was lost again. Obsessed. Depressed.”By the time he was 17, Ken felt so helpless he began planning suicide. “I just couldn’t imagine fighting the same-sex desires my whole life or bearing the weight of the loneliness and self-hatred I felt on a daily basis.”Scared that he would actually go through with his plan, Ken finally confessed to his parents and asked them to take him to a Christian counselor.“Those five years of counseling saved my life because it gave me encouragement and a totally confidential space to share everything,” Ken says. “All the shame over sexual encounters, pent up anger from being bullied, feelings of inadequacy, codependent fixations, and loneliness.”

Save lives and fight the bans on Christian counseling.

Ken’s counselor encouraged him to join a support group, and for the first time Ken realized he was not alone. “The group pointed me to books, which I devoured, containing examples of people whose sexual feelings had changed over time. The books also helped me discover underlying issues contributing to my sexual identity confusion,” Ken says.“I then attended a ministry school and my addictions to pornography and masturbation, as well as my bent toward codependent fixation, dramatically waned. There, I began to experience God as ... a kind Father who could be trusted. These were attributes of God I’d not known before.”In time, Ken says he was no longer sexually aroused by men anymore. He met a lovely young woman at church where he found himself “captivated by the sight and thought of her.” The couple married in 2006.“My wife is my closest and most treasured companion... Today, I have peace. I’m blessed with plenty of friends, and I feel known and valued by even the men in my community. I enjoy my life. None of that was true before.”Ken’s story is remarkable, but not unique. I’ve had the honor of getting to know many young men and women whose lives have literally been saved by Christian counseling. And that’s why Liberty Counsel is fighting so hard to overturn every unlawful ban on this special practice. Our court cases have overturned 23 bans in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. However, more than 87 bans still exist around the country. Liberty Counsel will be filing lawsuits in three more states. Our work in defeating these lawsuits isn’t simply setting the captives free — we are saving lives. Please help us save lives by supporting our legal fund today. When you do, a special challenge grant will DOUBLE the impact of your donation. Please, give generously today.

Even Congress is trying to ban Christian change counseling!HR 15 — the so-called “Equality Act” specifically denigrates Christian change counseling. With 212 House co-sponsors, this legislation only needs six Republicans to pass this bill. Liberty Counsel: Stopping the SPLC's hate mission . . .

The Southern Policy Law Center’s (SPLC) “hate list” that includes nonviolent, peaceful organizations promotes hate and is dangerous. The Family Research Council (FRC) was the target of an attempted mass shooting by Floyd Corkins who confessed he chose to attack FRC because of the SPLC’s “hate list” and “hate map.” For far too long, the SPLC has maligned and endangered people with its outrageous and demonstrably false “hate list” proclamations.

Liberty Counsel now represents yet another conservative group the SPLC has falsely included on its “hate list.” Read on to learn more about one of our latest cases. It is one thing to disagree and debate, but to falsely list your ideological opponent as a “hater” or as being part of a “hate group” is a profoundly serious offense. This incites people to harm others, and it must end. — Mat

YOU can help us seek justice. Support our legal work today and a special Challenge Grant will DOUBLE THE IMPACT of your donation. Please, give generously today!

Arthur,

Mark Potok is a former senior fellow at the SPLC and served as the editor-in-chief of SPLC’s biannual publication, Intelligence Report, and its regular investigative reports.

At the 2007 Michigan Alliance Against Hate Crimes Conference, Potok bragged about the SPLC “hate list,” declaring, “We really try and tackle these groups. Let me say that our aim, and sometimes the press describes us as monitoring hate groups, so I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them.”

The fact is, Potok and the SPLC’s hateful rhetoric stir up individuals to harm law-abiding people, as did Floyd Corkins, who wanted to commit mass murder.

STOP the SPLC’s dangerous “hate list” LIES. Support our legal fund today!

On August 15, 2012, a heavily armed Floyd Corkins barged into the headquarters of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. In addition to guns and ammo, Corkins carried with him a bag of Chick-fil-A sandwiches, intending to stuff them in the mouths of the FRC employees he planned to kill that day. Praise God, a brave security guard stopped Corkins’ rampage, but took a bullet in the process.

Corkins later confessed to the FBI that his murderous plan was motivated by the so-called “Hate Map” on the SPLC website that listed FRC as a “hate group.” In 2013, Corkins was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

On June 14, 2017, James Hodgkinson took aim at the Republicans practicing for the annual congressional baseball game. Hodgkinson had traveled from his suburban Illinois home weeks before, living in his van while prowling Washington, D.C., to “case out” the best scenario in which to kill as many Republican officeholders as possible.

On the day of the shooting, Hodgkinson shot more than 70 rounds, putting a congressional staffer, a Republican lobbyist, a Capitol Police officer, and House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) in critical condition. Again, praise God, none died from Hodgkinson’s rampage … but it was a close call for each of the above who spent weeks, and in some cases, months, to recover. To this day, Rep. Scalise walks with a pronounced limp due to his injuries.

Defeat the SPLC!

Police officers shot and killed Hodgkinson at the scene. Handwritten notes found in Hodgkinson’s pockets revealed the deranged man had a long list of Republicans he planned to kill that day, including Representatives Scalise, Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Trent Franks (R-AZ), Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Mo Brooks (R-AL) — ALL of whom had previously been vilified.

However, the SPLC has never been held accountable for the false “hate” label that fueled James Hodgkinson’s and Floyd Corkins’ mass murder attempts. Liberty Counsel aims to change that.

Liberty Counsel is suing the SPLC.

Liberty Counsel has joined the legal team representing The Dustin Inman Society (DIS) and its founder and president, D.A. King, which the SPLC has falsely painted as an “anti-immigrant” hate group.

DIS was formed in 2000, after an illegal immigrant’s recklessly driven vehicle hit and killed 16-year-old Dustin Inman and paralyzed his mother. The organization was founded to “end illegal immigration, illegal employment, and the illegal administration and granting of Public Benefits and services through the equal application of existing laws” in the state of Georgia.

The SPLC designated the DIS as an “anti-immigrant hate group” in its annual Intelligence Report published in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and classified it as a “hate group” in its annual Intelligence Report and Hate Maps published in 2019, 2020, and 2021. The SPLC also stated that D.A. King “focuses on vilifying all immigrants.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

The SPLC’s stated motivation is to “destroy” groups with which it disagrees, and it accomplishes this objective by falsely labeling nonviolent organizations as “hate groups.” But as can be witnessed by the victims of the FRC and congressional Republican baseball team, the SPLC hate list has only served to destroy innocent lives.

To falsely label nonviolent people or organizations with whom you disagree as “haters” or “hate groups” is irresponsible, dangerous, and deadly. The SPLC’s lies and disparagement must end. It is time to STOP the SPLC lies.

We seek justice and we continue to fight in courtrooms across the country and at the U.S. Supreme Court for the right to life, religious liberty, and the natural family. We won all four of the cases we argued or briefed before the High Court in 2022, and two cases before the High Court this year … and we aren’t done winning yet!

Your generous donation today, which will be DOUBLED IN IMPACT by a special Challenge Grant, will help us continue making a positive difference in our nation’s legal and public policy arenas. Please, give generously today!

The Overton Window Drifts Left: Liberty Counsel Warns Against Polygamy and Pedophilia

 We warned you.

It would never stop with false marriage as a coupling of two people of the same sex. The moral and sexual anarchy which would ensue because of the radical redefinition of marriage is pushing all kinds of perversion and harm.

Sadly, instead of standing for truth right where the issues started, with the introduction and imposition of same-sex marriage, many conservatives are now fighting against the DIS-Respect for Marriage Act (H4 8404), by highlighting the possible normalization of polygamy and pedophilia:

Polygamy is more common in America than you might think. Congress is about to make it even more so, if Sen. Schumer (D-NY) gets his way and passes HR 8404, the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act.”On Wednesday during a press conference, Schumer said, "But let me be clear, a vote will happen.” He stressed again a vote will happen “on the Senate floor in the coming weeks … ”The U.S. Senate floor is open for votes next week. Schumer is fixated on passing HR 8404.On the same day, Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Susan Collins (R-ME) said they are working to get more Republican votes and will propose an amendment to correct a “drafting error in one part of the bill” that Republicans fear will open the door to polygamy. This was no drafting error. In addition to same-sex marriage, HR 8404 forces every state to legally recognize the worst marriage laws of any other state—including laws that allow child bride, pedophile and incestuous “marriages.”Today, we will hear from some of the victims of polygamy. But first, please take a stand for these brave young women who escaped a lifetime of sexual servitude to decades-older men with apparently unbridled sexual appetites. Please help them by demanding Congress VOTE NO on HR 8404. — MatDefend marriage! Send your fax now demanding Congress Vote NO on HR 8404.

Arthur,There are an estimated 50,000-100,000 polygamous families in the U.S., and the popularity of polygamy is growing, thanks to a series of cable television shows that attempt to glorify the practice. But those cable TV shows rarely, if ever, reveal the abuse and desperation suffered by the young girls forced to marry into polygamous “families.”Allegations of sexual abuse, pedophilia and incest are rampant in polygamist families and the colonies they have formed in the U.S.There are four Republican votes for HR 8404. Six more are needed to overcome the filibuster. And about 16 Republican senators have not publicly stated their position on HR 8404. The senators MUST hear from you!

These young women need YOUR help! Tell Congress to VOTE NO on HR 8404!

"This is organized crime operating under the cover of religion," says 36-year-old Laura Chapman, who escaped a polygamist sect several years ago. Laura now helps other girls escape their polygamist marriages to pedophile husbands.Young girls are forced to marry as soon as possible, often to grown men already related to them. Once married, the girls are trapped.Mary Ann Kingston was one of those girls. Her father had forced her to marry her uncle, who promptly raped Mary Ann in her mother’s own house. Mary Ann was her uncle’s 15th wife.Mary Ann tried to flee, but she was quickly caught in the tiny insular community. Her father brought her out to the barn and horsewhipped her for her attempted escape.Mary Ann was promptly moved into a tiny apartment next to her uncle’s other wives so they could keep her in check. But somewhere deep down, she knew what was happening to her was very, very wrong. After one particularly bad beating, Mary Ann fled on foot, with only the clothes on her back. Beaten and bloody, she called 911 from a truck stop a few miles from her prison.Thank God, Mary Ann was rescued. But far too many young girls are not, and many more will be trapped in polygamy and child-bride “marriages,” unable to escape the pedophiles to whom they have been contracted. If the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” becomes law, it has a loophole that will open the door to legalize polygamy. This bill will further trap people like Mary Ann under even greater bondage!I need your help to hold senators accountable and stop HR 8404. Rush urgent faxes to the Senate to STOP HR 8404.

The bill applies to “marriage between 2 individuals.” The number should at least be written out as “two” or in more formal legislation as both, “two (2).” And the word “only” is not in the text—“only between” two people. The bill clearly overrides state marriage laws, including age limits, by allowing one state to set marriage law for the nation. Under HR 8404, a man can deceptively marry women in more than one state, and then use the bill to require one state to recognize the other marriage, and thus override state and federal polygamy laws. Utah no longer criminalizes polygamy. The fine is now about equivalent to a traffic ticket. Some senators simply view this bill as codifying same-sex marriage, which is bad enough. However, HR 8404 has many far-reaching implications, including pedophile marriage, same-sex, child-bride, incest, polygamy and any other perversion of marriage.Liberty Counsel is fighting for religious freedom every day in the halls of Congress as well as in state and federal courtrooms around the nation. This year alone, we have won all the cases we argued or briefed before the U.S. Supreme Court … and we aren’t done yet!Currently, Liberty Counsel is defending members of the U.S. military, as well as health care workers, employees and students against unlawful shot mandates. We continue to defend Christian counselors persecuted by politicians for daring to counsel people seeking to overcome unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors or gender confusion. Our multi-year defense of Sandra Merritt, the brave whistleblower being prosecuted for exposing Planned Parenthood’s “baby parts for sale” scheme, continues, as does work on many other cases. And we are filing multiple briefs in the state courts defending life.We need YOUR help to continue this winning streak for the Lord! Please, prayerfully consider making a recurring monthly donation to fund this legal battle for religious freedom. Every donation made today will be DOUBLED IN IMPACT by a Challenge Grant. We see how the Overton Window on cultural issues continues to drift to the left among conservatives, among restorationist Republicans and constitutionalists who want to perserve not the status quo, but rather restore the natural definition of sex, marriage, and family.

We need to get back to the basics. We need to restore what has been lost, not merely manage the dessicated decline.

Yes, we need to stop polygamy and pedophilia, yes we need to stop the corruption of the marriage institution in full. That means that we need to state plainly that "same-sex marriage" is a falsehood and a contradition which must be stopped at all costs!
