Psalm 114: We Are Going Where We Have Always Been

1When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

2Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.

3The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.

4The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

5What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?

6Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?

7Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

8Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

The first two verses of this wonderful psalm seem strange, not just for the reference of Israel leaving Egypt, a land of strange language, but for the following strange repetition

"When Israel went out of Egypt. . .Israel [was] his dominion]"

Israel is going to Israel. . .

That's exactly the life of grace and peace which we live and receive in Christ Jesus!

We are granted every spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus when we are born again.

Yet many Christians just sit and stare at life, contenting themselves with "I am born again."

Peter invites us to learn of the treasures that we have in Christ:

"Grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord." (2 Peter 3: 18)

Paul would write to the Corinthians (and by extension, to all of us):

"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." (2 Corinthians 4: 7)

Jesus shared during His earthly ministry:

"Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old." (Matthew 13: 52)

Instead of trying to get something, the life of every believer in Christ is to learn more about all the great things which we have received because of Christ and Him Crucified:

"17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power." (Ephesians 1: 16-19)

It's one thing to know that we have been seated with the Prince of His People (Psalm 113)

In this year of greater glory, let Jesus take you into the Promised Land of His rest (Hebrews 4: 11), where you will find that He is freely giving you all things with Himself (Romans 8: 31-32)
