Now they are writing to complain about ICE because they are staking out churches, workplaces, and other private venues. What they refuse to accept, however, is that ICE is authorized per federal and constitutional governance to enforce immigration laws in every section of the United States.
Furthermore, ICE would have not have to stake out private areas if the state of California had not passed SB 54, which forbids local, county, and state law enforcement from cooperating with ICE. If the immigration authorities had been permitted to work within the jails and deport all illegal criminals, they would not have had to go into the streets to get the illegals in the country.
Check out the whining and crying now, and guess how many will actually be influenced by this (less than zero).
Dear MoveOn member,
In an unprecedented escalation of aggression, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents—the deportation force Donald Trump has empowered to carry out his devastating, anti-immigrant agenda—have staked out schools and churches, arresting parents who were dropping their kids off at school or trying to enter places of worship.1
It's not "Anti-immigrant" to enforce immigration laws. Those who enter this country cannot call themselves immigrants. They are illegal aliens, are more simply "criminals."
The corruption of the English language by left-wing agitators is beyond unconscionable.
ICE has increasingly targeted immigrant rights leaders to send a chilling message to activists and to disrupt the vocal, peaceful movement rising to protect immigrant communities.2
And ICE agents have even arrested a university instructor in Arizona who left food and water for immigrants, charging him with a felony for "harboring" immigrants.3 If convicted, this humanitarian worker could be sentenced to five years in prison.
Good job, ICE! Illegal alien activists who snub at federal law and organize sedition and dissent should be rounded up and deported right away in order to discourage illegal immigration.
And the Department of Homeland Security is reportedly assessing the legal avenues to "mass arrest" mayors of sanctuary cities if they refuse to have local agencies comply with Trump's deportation directives—a truly unprecedented and unconstitutional act.4
AWESOME! I only have one complaint, myself, about this: "What took them so long?!"
Trump's deportation machine is in overdrive—tearing apart families, hurting communities, and undermining the civic institutions and norms that are part of our functioning democracy.
President Trump and ICE are not responsible for breaking up families. The illegal aliens who insisted on bringing their children into this country are responsible. Period. They bear the burden of having broken the law and inviting the lawful, moral consequence of losing their family or being deported back to their home countries.
In New Jersey, Harry Pangemanan—an Indonesian immigrant who had just been given a civic award for leading crews that rebuilt more than 200 homes since Hurricane Sandy—has been forced to take sanctuary in a church after ICE agents came to his home.5
That church should lose its status as a house of worship. They are hiding a fugitive from justice. So many of these liberal institutions have lost all connection with what justice and righteousness really mean. It is unbelievable.
In New York, immigrant rights leader Ravi Ragbir was arrested at a routine check-in with immigration officials—and religious leaders and local elected officials were arrested trying to block the vehicle taking him away. Since then, a judge has ordered him released. But he is only one of many immigrant leaders recently targeted.6
Those activists who blocked the truck should be arrested, too. If they are illegal aliens, they need to be deported.
Also in New York, members of the clergy have said ICE agents have repeatedly come into their congregations and stopped worshippers from entering and exiting, undermining a tradition older than the United States itself of respecting houses of worship as sanctuaries.7
What is the basis of this "Tradition"? Where is the United States code does it say that churches have a right to house criminals from arrest? Where indeed?
And last Tuesday, an Arizona representative called on U.S. Capitol police to arrest any undocumented Americans attending the State of the Union address, who were there at the invitation of other members of Congress to ensure immigrants are not forced back into the shadows by the Trump administration.8
That representatives name is Paul Gosar, and I say God bless him for his bold assertion to arrest all illegal aliens.
Trump's made no secret that he's proud of his vicious, aggressive deportation machine. He used his State of the Union to continue his fear mongering crusade against immigrants. And his proposal for a "deal" on immigration reads like a white supremacist wish list to increase deportations and slash all forms of immigration.
I am proud of my President for demonstrating the courage and resolve to put the needs of Americans first and assert the sovereignty of the United States of America. Every nation has the right and responsibility to enforce their laws and secure their borders against invading foreign nationals. Period.
While Trump claims that he's targeting violent criminals, it's civic leaders like Harry and Ravi—and mothers, fathers, teachers, doctors, homeowners, small business owners—who are being torn out of their communities.
DEAL WITH IT!
Enough is enough. While we can't stop Trump's deportation machine entirely, here's what we can do:
- Ensure every American knows and understands exactly what's happening and how Trump's extreme actions are hurting communities. This means shining a spotlight on these stories over social media, on TV, and in newspapers across the country.
- Support institutions and people who offer sanctuary, working at the local and state level to protect houses of worship from ICE raids and protecting sanctuary cities. Local leaders who have fought for sanctuary cities need to know we stand with them. And we can push more institutional leaders to forcefully condemn ICE's actions and demand respect for the traditions of churches and individuals supporting immigrant families.
- Pass the Dream Act and reinstate Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Members of Congress from both parties and a wide majority of the American people want protections for Dreamers. Congress must act now.
MoveOn.org is moving with the same hard-left demands for the DREAM Act.
Not going to happen. But keep it up, leftists, for you will ensure that no amnesty ever passes out of Congress. EVER!
Thanks for all you do.
