Further Reflection on Torrance's "Pride Month" Resolution Controversy
The news has been spreading throughout the city that Councilwoman Sharon Kalani's perverse attempt to push "Pride Month" in the city of Torrance failed this year.
The usual left-wing and progressive agitators are complaining online, but other Torrance community groups on Facebook are generally pleased.
I didn't have the chance over the last year to sound off another deep concern regarding the whole "Pride Month" push.
Last year, when the city council narrowly adopted the troublesome, unwanted resolution, Jean Adelsman targeted Councilman Mattucci (once again) over his outspoken outrage about the resolution.
Here are his full remarks from the May 7, 2024, Torrance City Council meeting on the "pride" resolution:
Here are Adelsman's first statements on Mattucci's "rant":
· Mattucci and Sheikh were the evening’s disappointments. Several people called Mattucci’s comments a disgrace – Susan Niemeyer referred to it as a rant in her FaceBook post on the meeting.
Who is Susan Niemeyer?
When Chen called on Kalani immediately after Mattucci unleashed his wrath, she was clearly shaken and said, “What can you say after that?”
More people should be as upset as Mattucci was. More on that later. If Councilwoman was Kalani was "clearly shaken" by some strong statements from one of her colleagues, then she is not mayor material.
In the next newsletter, she obsessed over Mattucci's comments further:A number of readers expressed concern over the subject of Mattucci’s recent rant. If you missed that newsletter, go to www.TakeBackTorrance.com and look at Newsletter No. 50.
He was focused on a survey that he said had asked his 10-year-old son questions of a sexual nature. I didn’t originally raise it because, as District 4’s Sharon Kalani pointed out, Torrance Unified School District has jurisdiction here and the City Council has no role. In other words, Mattucci’s comments were inappropriate.
Every adult should be outraged--not just concerned--about school districts giving students sexually explicit or charged surveys. EVERYONE!
As it turns out, he also misspoke. After being prodded by readers, I researched the issue, and thanks to my TUSD source who steered me to the information I was looking for.
Mattucci was referring to the California Healthy Kids Survey, which is a project of the California Department of Education. The survey’s goal: “Helping schools and communities build positive environments for student success.”
How does asking children if they are non-binary or gay contribute to a positive school environment? Why are adults so determined to push these awful themes on children? Why is pushing destructive behaviors on children "Acceptable"?
Its website adds, “At the heart of the CHKS is a research-based core module that provides valid indicators to promote student engagement and achievement, safety, positive development, health, and overall well-being.” The site also said it is “the largest statewide student survey of resiliency, protective factors, risk behaviors, and school climate in the nation.”
Notice how she did not list the specific, invasive questions that the survey poses to California students. I wonder why she left that out?
Most of California’s school districts participate, and the information is also used by a variety of non-academic agencies. For example, the Volunteer Center, whose board I serve on, uses information from it to improve its youth programs, in particular the Impact Makers (more on that later). As does the Beach Cities Health District’s Allcove program for teens.
Mattucci repeatedly said his 10-year-old son received the questionnaire. The problem: TUSD administers the survey to sixth-graders, which rarely includes a 10-year-old. So, his son was not 10 when he took the survey.
If you would
like to learn more about the survey, go to https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/at/cefchks.asp.
Notice how Jean Adelsman, and LGBT propagandists in general, do not care about the well-being of children. Notice how they don't take notice, or even break a sweat, over the contents of these abusive materials being pushed on children.
The only thing that Jean cared about was that Aurelio supposedly got his dates mixed up when he mentioned the survey. Earlier this month, he corrected the record yet again and said that indeed, his son did receive the survey according to the times he had mentioned last year. He made no mistake.
Why are liberals so deteremined to push LGBT on kids?
Why are progressives so adamant about celebrating sexual degeneracy as a civil right?
Why do some of these Torrance residents think that the "Balanced City" should start picking identity groups to promote against everyoe else? Why do they want to turn Torrance into West Hollywood of San Francisco?
Breaking News: FPPC Investigation of Aurelio Mattucci Recall Underway
Torrance resident Patsy Okada has filed a complaint with the FPPC in connection with Jean Adelsman's recall effort against Torrance City Councilman and City Treasurer candidate Aurelio Mattucci.
This is a significant development, since the FPPC receives between 1,000 and 2,000 complaints each year. Patsy's complaint was accepted!
I received the following text message from Patsy, which she had received from Bob Habel, one of the Torrance Parks and Recreation Commissioners, who organized the failed recall effort against Torrance City Councilman Jon Kaji:
Here's the full message, if you cannot read the text in the picture:
Thanks [sic] you. The names will not appear in the Breeze because we are just going to scare him into that we are going to recall him. After we gather the necessary signatures, we turn them into the city clerk, she verifies that they are valid. Then we can pay someone to serve him that he is being recalled. That is where it ends. Names and addresses will not appear in the paper. It's not going to go that far. Once he is served, he will know that District 1 people are not happy with him. There is no lawyer with the Kaji recall. I don't know who Jean is using for the Mattucci recall.
So, the Kaji recall effort was a hoax.
What about the Mattucci recall?
Patsy shared the following with me:
My complaint was 99% from Jean Adelsman’s newsletters. But in the newsletters Jean asked for donations for the recall. FPPC jurisdiction is money involved in an election/recall.
In case anyone has forgotten, Jean Adelsman was one of the key organizers of the Mattucci recall. She asked for donations!
She was the biggest cheerleader, outlining all the reasons why Mattucci "needed" to be recalled.
She did have a considerable role in the recall effort:
A few personal points: I am No. 39 out of the 60. If the
recall succeeds, I will not seek the seat. I ran in 2022 because, at that
moment, no one else was prepared to oppose Mattucci. Some excellent candidates
have already indicated that they would be available to fill the seat in 2024. I
am neither chair nor treasurer. I am serving as the committee’s communications
director.
She frequently promoted the donation links for the recall effort, too.
Was the Mattucci effort just another bluff? If so, why raise money for it? If the circulators had no intention of actually collecting enough signatures to put a recall measure on the ballot, why fundraise?
Pasty shared with me:
I got the financial disclosure for this
recall and I used it as an exhibit. The treasurer of the recall is Evelyn
Smith, and Marilyn Bailey is the state measure proponent. Also, Jean was
interviewed by the Daily Breeze when the recall ended . The reporter asked
her how many signatures were collected, and she wouldn’t answer. I gave that as
an exhibit.
I contacted the City Clerk for more information regarding who initiated the recall, and here's what she shared with me:
The legal publication lists Mary A. Bailey, Mathilde F. Terre, and Marla Shwarts.
YIKES!

The Truth and the Cover-Up, by David Kittle
- The truth and the cover-up by the Democrats about Republicans and Democrats during and after Slavery, and the Democrat bias, fake news lies -
Most Democrats at the time of the Civil war and to it's end
fought to keep slavery, but Republican President Lincoln fought and freed the
slaves and ended slavery. George Washington was a good friend of De Lafayette,
the French general of the French forces who allied and fought with the
colonists to win our Independence. The two corresponded regularly.
Before the end of the Revolutionary war, George Washington
wrote De Lafayette expressing the goal of showing Washington's plans to end
slavery. Before the end of the Revolutionary War, Thomas Jefferson wrote of his disdain for slavery.
It's been said that after Abraham Lincoln lost his life to a
pro- slavery assassin in Ford Theater, the Democrat President who took office
after Lincoln set race relations back a hundred years by refusing blacks the
right to vote.
Most Republicans in Congress voted for the passage of the
1964 Civil Rights Act, while most Democrats in Congress voted against it.
In addition, President Washington banned slavery in the
Northwest territories. All of these facts are ignored in the U.S. public school
system, led by the leftwing indoctrination union led teacher's associations for
the purpose of race baiting political exploitation for the purpose of to
getting votes for race baiting, dishonest Democrat party candidates and
incumbents who for decades have led the charge of intentional, deceptive racial
division. The fake news Democrat bias media are the willing participants of the
leftwing Democrat cabal in the U.S. education system.
MassResistance Helps Stop Pride Resolution in Torrance, CA
MassResistance rallies local groups to halt “Pride Month” resolution in Los Angeles suburb, angering LGBT activists.
Resolution passed last year – but not this June!
Activism made the difference.
June 22, 2025
MassResistance's Arthur Schaper (fourth from right) with local Muslims who came and pressured liberal Muslim councilman to vote the right way. When a city passes a “Pride Month” resolution, and subsequently adorns public buildings and social media with LGBT symbols, it has an (intended) chilling effect on conservatives and religious believers. Their tax money is promoting a virulent anti-Christian political movement that endorses dangerous sexual perversions.
If good people don’t push back and fervently seek to stop that, the proponents become even more antagonistic and aggressive.
Los Angeles County is one of the most liberal counties in one of the most liberal states. Pride parades are commonplace, and many cities scramble to show how “LGBT friendly” they are. Some city council members are die-hard leftists who will appease the homosexual-transgender lobby at all costs. Other elected officials believe the absurd threats that if their city does not pass a “Pride Month” resolution every year and put LGBT graphics on the city’s social media, major businesses and future investment will leave. Others just go with the flow.
Arthur Schaper, our national Field Director, lives in Torrance in Los Angeles County. Although we don’t have a MassResistance chapter in Torrance, Arthur is very skilled at mobilizing local conservative groups. Here is a summary of what they accomplished.
“Pride Month” resolution passed last year in Torrance – after a battle
In 2024, the “Pride Month” resolution was brought up with a passionate speech by one of the council members. LGBT activists came and angrily demanded that the city celebrate its “inclusivity” and “recognition of the LGBTQ+ community.” It was supported by the Downtown Torrance Association of (mostly left-leaning) businesses.
Local LGBT activists angrily testified that the "Pride Month" resolution must be approved. It could have passed easily. But Arthur had already gotten to work. He coordinated with various local conservative groups, and got them involved both directly and on social media. As a result, although the LGBT activists had an aggressive contingent at the City Council meeting, the vast majority of the residents who showed up that evening spoke against it.
One of the council members, Asam Sheikh, is a Muslim and registered Democrat who’s received support from numerous Democrat policy makers and politicians in Los Angeles County. It was evident that he was going to support the resolution. But Arthur met with the local Imam, and came to the council meeting with quite a few Muslims who were Sheikh’s constituents. Many of them had contacted Sheikh and made it clear how strongly they opposed the resolution.
Councilman Asam Sheikh wasn't looking very comfortable during that meeting. The appearance of local conservatives gave strength to the council members who did not support the resolution. Councilman Aurelio Mattucci gave a booming speech against it, loudly saying, “Don’t shove your LGBT movement down my throat!” In particular, he said, “it’s being shoved into our youth.” He described how his 10-year-old son, who is in elementary school, was receiving questionnaires at the school asking about his sexual orientation and gender identity. It outraged him! He received broad applause and support from the public for speaking out.
But Councilman Jon Kaji, a Japanese American, gave a speech describing his longstanding support for the LGBT movement. He then compared the LGBT “civil rights” struggle to the internment of Japanese during World War II (which Kaji said included his own relatives). The comparison was shocking.
Councilman Kaji during his speech comparing the Japanese internment to the LGBT "civil rights" struggle. When the vote came, Arthur’s efforts almost paid off. The resolution passed by a slim 4-3. Councilman Sheikh got the message – and voted “no.” But Jon Kaji’s passionate “yes” was the deciding vote.
This year – the resolution fails!
At the May 20, 2025 meeting, the leftists on the Torrance City Council and the local LGBT activists were back for another “Pride Month” resolution for June. The same council member who gave the passionate introductory speech last year, Sharon Kalani, repeated her performance.
After the 2024 City Council meeting and vote, Arthur helped inform and mobilize members of the public about Kaji’s shocking speech. A large number of people – including Japanese Americans in Torrance – blasted Councilman Kaji for equating the internment of Japanese Americans and the civil rights movement to the promotions of homosexuality and transgenderism. The backlash was considerable. And it gave momentum to the numbers of outraged conservatives who came back for this year’s meeting.
Outraged conservatives came and were very clear about how they felt.Councilman Sheikh announced right away that he would abstain from the vote (which amounts to a “no” vote). The other two “no” votes from last year held firm. Three of the leftist City Councilmen who supported it last time announced they would support it again, which they did. And again, the tie-breaker would be Kaji.
But this time, after feeling the heat, Kaji — the vocal LGBT supporter — voted “no”!
So the “Pride Month” resolution did not pass! The LGBT activists couldn’t believe it.
Final thoughts
This year, some cities across the country are going even further with their radicalism. They are adopting the “pride” flag as an official city flag – for all government spaces.
But these local fights are winnable. A big reason why cowardly politicians support these LGBT promotions should be obvious: Most of the time there is no political downside for doing it – and there’s no strong community support for opposing it.
MassResistance helped change that in Torrance – and it will definitely have a lasting impact there. It needs to happen everywhere, and we will help you do it!
Please help us continue to do our uncompromising work!
Our successes depend on people like you.
Your support will make the difference!
