California Dems Want Their 2/3rds Back? No Way!

AM Alert: Democrats again gunning for legislative supermajorities

With California’s legislative session behind us, attention turns to the fall elections, where Republicans are crouched in a defensive position and Democrats are looking to expand the map.

Republicans are playing defense, which means that Democrats are trying to fight for something.

I thought that they were the dominant party!

The end of session has traditionally marked the time when staff members hit the phones and fan out across the state to work in competitive races.

In the Assembly, Democrats need to pick up two seats to win back a two-thirds supermajority they lost two years ago (after seldom taking advantage of it). They are one seat shy of attaining supermajority status in the upper chamber, a distinction that would allow the dominant party to raise taxes and rewrite rules.

UGH! The last thing that this state needs is a liberal Democratic majority ruining the state for good.

PLEASE, Californians, have some sense, and say "No!" to Democrats!

At least five Republican Assembly members are fighting to return to the lower chamber: David Hadley of Manhattan Beach, Young Kim of Fullerton, Marc Steinorth of Rancho Cucamonga, Catharine Baker of Dublin and Eric Linder of Corona. Hadley is in a rematch with former Democratic Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi of Torrance while Kim is once again facing off against ex-Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva of Fullerton.

Go, David Hadely, GO!

I do look forward to the day when California Republican Party leaders stop seeing every other election cycle as an example of playing defense.

We need to start putting Democrats on defense for the terrible job they have done ruining this Golden State!

Complicating the prospects of the down-ticket Republicans is their opponents’ relentless invoking of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. The New York businessman badly trails Hillary Clinton statewide in deep-blue California and is treading water in several toss-up districts. Republicans also must overcome not having one of their own in the U.S. Senate race between Democrats Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez.

I keep hearing this narrative that Trump is badly trailing Hillary Clinton.

And yet Crooked Hillary is running commercials in California?

She must be really worried about her numbers in this state. Why shouldn't she? She is losing to Donald Trump in the Los Angeles Times poll as I write.

In the Senate, Democrats are targeting Assemblywoman Ling Ling Chang, a Republican from Diamond Bar, while the GOP is defending the Antelope Valley seat of the late Sharon Runner, which is being sought by Assemblyman Scott Wilk of Santa Clarita.

Let's cut the crap here.

Those two state senate seats are safely in GOP hands.

Democrats have to hold onto seats of their own, including SD-25 and SD-27.

How much will they have to spend in order to stay safe there?

Insider reporters have told me that the Democrats will have to spend at least $5 million to hold onto SD-25, since they are fighting against Michael Antonovich, the well-known and well-respected LA County supervisor.
