Dear Fellow Delegate:
As delegates, we received a letter from the California Republican Leadership Retired asking that we keep the Top Two. Their primary reason given was to make the Democrat Party spend millions of dollars on Democrat candidates. You talk about old-style politics. What does making another Party spending more money have to do with one Party having the only two candidates moving on to the general election? It doesn't! Repealing the Top Two resurrects the Republican Party and the minor Parties. The repeal of the Top Two means that each Party's top vote-getter moves on to the general election. The repeal of the Top Two returns representative government to California instead of a system that was put in place by the Democrat majority in the Legislature, a former left-leaning governor, a wayward Republican (?) Assemblyman, and Charles T. Munger, Jr. - his money, that is! No one person or no one person's money should influence a decision as important as the repeal of the Top Two.
The language of the repeal of the Top Two is simple. The language of Proposition 14, which resulted in the Top Two Law, is being taken out of the Constitution. There are no pages of legislation to labor through. It's a 'repeal.' Not a 'replacement.'
Let's shed the old-style political antics and save the Republican Party in California. By your unanimous support, tell the retired Republican Leadership that their style is totally out of touch with reality; that you're working for the Party and not against it.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Tom
