“Property owners
should have the right to rent out their rooms for extra income, and not worry
about more government bans or overwhelming regulatory burdens,” said Arthur
Schaper.
“We respect the concerns of city
residents frustrated by abusive short-term renters, and the city should look
into proper regulations to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all
residents.
“A blanket ban on short-term rentals
will discourage property ownership within the city, as well as add further burdens
homeowners looking to invest and build on their property for further revenue
sources.”
Schaper continued: “The Torrance City
Council has adopted too many top-down government ordinances to deal with
localized concerns. Enforcement of existing ordinances would curb many of the quality
of life concerns connected with Airbnb and other short-term rental programs
currently operating in the city of Torrance.”
