Pat Robertson Endores (Decriminalizing) Pot

Despite his flaps dishing on controversial political issues, television evangelist Pat Robertson has made the headlines for a good cause: ending the drug war against pot users.

"I think it's just shocking how many of these young people wind up in prison and they get turned into hardcore criminals because they had a possession of a very small amount of a controlled substance," Robertson commented, citing the War on Drugs as a massive failure.

Once again, mercy trumps sacrifice and obedience over the fat of rams, except in this case, Robertson points out the outrageous and unintended consequences that plague minor offenders for possession. Free Market Economist Milton Friedman decried the immorality of incarcerating individuals for a private failing. William F. Buckley, normally a hard-line conservative concerning social issues, also demanded the end to the en masse lock-up for drug users. It is good to read that even "religious" authorities are speaking out for the downtrodden and the habitually addicted.
