CA Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) Explains Abstention on Sanctuary State Bill

Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) finally sent me an email sharing his views and concerns about SB-54.

I had been hounding him and his staff on this issue for months. In fact, friends of mine in We the People Rising and American Children First confronted Muratuschi's staffers about this very issue.

Here's the whole video below:

We had to go to this length to get any kind of contact with the Assemblyman on this issue.

Then we confronted him at the Lomita coffee house Hot-N-Tot:

He eventually abstained on the legislation, which counts as good as a "No" vote.

Not very courageous, but better than a "Yes" vote, for sure.

Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi

Dear Mr. Schaper:

Thank you for writing me in opposition of Senate Bill 54 (De León). This bill prevents local law enforcement officers from assisting with intervening on matters of illegal immigration by restricting communication between local officers and federal agents about people in custody, with the exception of those convicted of most felonies within the past 15 years. I abstained from voting on this bill because I was concerned that restricting communication between local officers and federal agents may put public safety at risk.

Should you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (310) 375-0691, or visit my website at http://a66.asmdc.org.

It is a pleasure to be of service.

Sincerely,

 AL MURATSUCHI
Assemblymember, 66th District
