Anaheim City Council Member Kring had announced via media coverage that she would present a sanctuary city agenda item at the 4/25/17 Anaheim City Council meeting.
However, according to the Anaheim City Council agenda, the agenda item is a proposed resolution denouncing President Trump's executive travel ban Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States. Please attend the Anaheim City Council meeting, and during the comment segment, tell the council members to VOTE NO on the proposed resolution.

RESOLUTION NO. 2017- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM OPPOSING EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 13769 AND REAFFIRMING OUR VALUES OF KINDNESS AND COMPASSION IN SUPPORTING POLICIES THAT AFFIRM CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED CIVIL AND LEGAL RIGHTS.
WHEREAS, the First Amendment of the United States Constitution reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”
WHEREAS, the United States was established by immigrants who fled religious persecution and continue to thrive as a nation of immigrants;
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim honors and respects its immigrant roots and continues to be a city that welcomes and celebrates diversity;
WHEREAS, Anaheim is home to Africans, Arabs, Asians, Black Americans, Europeans, Indigenous people, Latinos, Middle Easterners, South Asians, immigrants, refugees, Muslims and people of all faiths, who live, work, and have established businesses throughout the city;
WHEREAS, Executive Order 13769: “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States,” issued on January 27, 2017, suspended all refugee admissions for 120 days, barred entry of all travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries: Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Libya, and Somalia for a period of 90 days, and suspended the Syrian refugee program indefinitely;
WHEREAS, the Executive Order has disparately impacted refugees fleeing political, social, and religious persecution in their own countries and Muslim American citizens, Green Card and Visa holders, including local residents and business owners in Anaheim;
WHEREAS, the Executive Order led to the detention without legal counsel of hundreds of travelers, causing chaos, confusion, deep anxiety, and hardship for businesses and individuals, including children and families, in and outside of the aforementioned seven countries including residents of Anaheim, people of all faiths, races, national origins, and backgrounds;
WHEREAS, a revised version of the Executive Order barring travelers from six Muslim-majority countries: Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Libya, and Somalia, and suspending refugee admissions for 120 days, was signed on Monday, March 6, 2017 and took effect starting Thursday, March 16, 2017;
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has previously passed Resolution 2015-264 urging the President of the United States to increase the number of Syrian refugees in order to preserve their lives and dignity, and to stand in solidarity with immigrant communities;
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim prides itself on its diversity of faiths, cultures, and backgrounds that have greatly contributed to the civic, economic, and social fabric of the city;
WHEREAS, Anaheim is a city of kindness and compassion and embraces honor, respect, and dignity for all;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF ANAHEIM, hereby: 1. Affirms the religious pluralism of the City of Anaheim, and expresses solidarity with immigrants, refugees, and Muslims who have been targeted because of their national origin, ethnicity, race and/or religion; 2. Encourages the Administration to rescind Executive Orders that have a disparate impact on local communities because they marginalize groups based on their national origin, ethnicity, race, and/or religion and run contrary to the United States Constitution and our American values; 3. Opposes laws and policies designed to instill a rhetoric of fear in residents of Anaheim; 4. Reaffirms its support for local measures and policies that affirm constitutionally protected civil and legal rights, and ensure that those targeted on the basis of religion, national origin, ethnicity, race or immigration status can turn to their local government without fear of recrimination; 5. NOTE: In addition to the proposed resolution to oppose Trump's executive travel ban, during the Anaheim City Council presentation segment, the city will Proclaim May 5, 2017, as Cinco de Mayo. The public can speak out on this topic during the public comment segment of the meeting.
The Anaheim City Council Will Vote On Resolution No 2017 Opposing President Trump's Executive Order Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States. Speak out in support of President Trump's executive plan to Make America Safe Again. The 6 countries that President Trump seeks to temporarily ban from travel to the USA are, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Libya, and Somalia,because these are countries that do not have the capability to properly vet those seeking to enter the USA.
