Facebook, Twitter, and the blogosphere erupted over the latest anti-Trump Republican news.
George Herbert Walker Bush, the former Congressman, CIA Director, Vice President, and then President for one term (the last President to serve only four years in the White House before losing), will be voting for uber-corrupt, severely progressive (because she really isn’t) Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Where did this news come from?
This revelation dropped on the global second-by-second news services throughout Politico (not exactly the most trustworthy of sources). Politico had the hollow audacity to run a baseless smear-piece against Dr. Ben Carson, that he had supposedly lied about a West Point scholarship.
One has to wonder how Politico manages to stay in business, if they can’t get their facts straight, and give off their clearly pro-leftwing cheerleading slant.
The article suggested that Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend (daughter of Robert Kennedy), the former Maryland lieutenant governor, had a fun meeting with the elderly former chief executive.
Then she posted on Facebook: “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!!”
I tried to find this post. Nowhere to be found.
The picture is real enough. Of course, a real picture does not verify the source or the veracity of the caption.
Bush’s spokesman has remained mum about this alleged treacherous endorsement:
"The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim."
For now, let’s dispense with the unconscionable presentiment that a prominent Republican, the former President of the United States, is back-stabbing his party and the country.
We have a scenario where an elder statesman confided in another former elected official. He was going to vote for this or that presidential candidate. Instead of respecting his privacy, she tattled online and blabbed to everyone this secret.
Shame on Hartington! What kind of a world do we live in, where politicians of extended pedigree cannot keep a confidence, even among friends who have returned to private life?
Is there no capacity left among public officials to keep private thoughts private?
Facebook over-exposure strikes again.
Key lesson: don’t tell secrets to a member of the Kennedy clan.
Honestly, Maryland could not have done worse than elected a quasi-dynasty of entitled Democrats who think they should sit in Governor’s Mansion or Washington D.C. backrooms just because.
Now, let’s focus on Bush Senior.
From the first months of his presidency, Bush’s most vocal critics lambasted him as a New World Order Globalist. He also threw his Republican Party under the bus when he had pledged at the 1988 convention: “Read My Lips: No New Taxes.” That pledge took a nose dive, and the American People ended up paying through the nose.
It was 1992, and even though I could not vote, I was so angry, so ashamed of George H.W. Bush’s caving on principle, plus his adamantly refusal to fight with a wayward and troublesome Democratic Congress. I was rooting for Ross Perot, only because he took the budget issues seriously, and was not a liar like Bush or Bubba.
Big Government, neoconservative, globalist Republicanism took a full frontal fall with George W. Bush in 2008. Republicans who claimed fiscal prudence needed to govern that way. A conservative agenda which focused on the needs of all, not just the greed of the few, would rule the day.
I am not at all surprised that Elitist, corporate Republicans like Meg Whitman, Bob Gates, as well as George H.W. are voting for Hillary Clinton. Main Street Republican voters so despise the Washington Establishment, that their disdain for the GOP nominee makes Trump all the more appealing.
Shame on Bush!
Last of all, let’s dissect the dying media’s fatal obsession with this unverified scoop.
What kind of journalism goes all out reporting some shocking event (if an online photo with two old people counts as shocking), with evidence as scant as a hard-to-find Facebook post? The whole “Facebook told me Bush is voting Hillary” headline saga exposes how biased, corrupt, and increasingly irrelevant the major media junkets have devolved.
Bush 41, the one-termer who succeeded Ronald Reagan in 1988 with a 40+ state election sweep, is not keen on Donald Trump? We all knew that already. The Bush family—George Sr. George Jr., Jeb from Florida who floundered until he gave up in South Carolina—didn’t attend the RNC Convention in Cleveland.
Guess what? No one cared. No one really noticed.
So, does anyone really care that this long-retired former President is voting for Hillary Clinton?
The media would have us believe that this latest defection belongs to a never-ending list of Republicans do not like the standard-bearer, and that the lack of established rank-and-file support means Trump is headed for the dumps. The latest polling shows that Trump is riding the angry, discontent populist wave of the Loud Majority, tired of easy Washington two-step compromises hurting everyone else.
How sad for the media! This is the best they can do to try and tear down Trump!
