This thinking is all wrong.
Because individuals no longer have to prove or demonstrate any kind of legal status, those individuals who fall below a certain poverty line will ... guess what? ... get federal subsidies for Obamacare.
The whole exchange is based on federal monies, taken from taxpayers without their permission to finance a failing encroachment of the state into health care.
This whole mess needs to be shut down not expanded.

By the way, millions of Californians are suffering from terrible access to health care. Medical professionals are leaving their careers, the state, or both because of the exorbitant costs and unreal demands of stretching too few resources for more people, many of whom should not live in this country in the first place.
"As a state legislator who cares about border security, I face an impossible dilemma. On the one hand, the Supreme Court has ruled that states such as California cannot adopt our own immigration policies or even enforce Federal laws."
And? The Supreme Court has issued bad, false, unconstitutional rulings before. The state of Texas, Alabama, and Arizona have followed their own paths to secure their borders, whether the federal government likes it or not.
"The state legislature does not get to decide who lives here."
The state legislature can enact policies to remove the negative enticements for illegal aliens who want to live here.
"And yet I legislate on nay matters that touch on illegal residents and on the health and safety of citizens, legal residents, and illegal residents. Further, both as a matter of state law and on humanitarian grounds emergency rooms do not deny care to patients in need regardless of their immigration status."
The difficult predicament of our medical facilities still does not justify opening the doors of Obamacare to illegal aliens.

This argument wears thin: "They are already here, so we might as well accommodate them." No! With that kind of logic, should we open up all the prisons and let the drug dealers, burglars, and murderers continue to commit crimes, too?

Guess what? Legal residents are not buying health insurance, because they cannot afford it. The state health insurance exchange is going bust. One of the main insurance providers is exiting out of the entire program, pretty much ensuring that the whole insurance scheme falls apart.
And those illegal aliens will still take advantage of California emergency rooms, if there are any left.
The same pandering has resorted to similar logic about drivers licenses for illegal aliens. "They are already here, so we need to allow them the opportunity to get a driver's license to keep our streets safe,"
Our streets are not safer. Neither will our hospitals, both from a fiscal as well as a moral standpoint.
"I can assure you that I will oppose subsidizing the insurance policies of illegal residents."
If that were the case, then David Hadley would not have voted for SB 10.
Contact David Hadley's office, and tell him your disappointment over SB 10, and his need to stop illegal immigration to the state of California, end the negative inducements with taxpayer dollars.
