A Win for Life and Liberty: The Plight and Fight of Dwight Monagan

Freedom of Speech is under unprecedented attack in this country.

I am not afraid, though, since private citizens were not exercising their freedom of speech enough to protest and redress their government.

Too many of us had grown complacent. Rights make no might if we do not fight.

Missionary Dwight Monagan fought, and faced jail time. Incredible!

Then after two months in jail then facing trial, the state caved and threw out the charges.

Here is the first report:

PRO-LIFER DWIGHT MONAGAN ON TRIAL

Dwight Monagan was arrested on November 4, 2015, while standing near
an abortion clinic in Long Beach, California. At the time of the
arrest, Dwight was holding up a larger-than-life-size photo of the
remains of an aborted baby’s body parts. After his arraignment in Long
Beach, Dwight was sent to the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail
in downtown Los Angeles.

On Christmas Day, a fellow pro-lifer paid the non-refundable
five-thousand-dollars ($5,000.00) to the bail bond company so it would
put up the fifty-thousand-dollars ($50,000.00) ordered by the court as
the bail amount for Dwight’s release from jail while awaiting trial.

Whatever happened to the Eighth Amendment? $50,000 is excessive, and to pay a bondsman five grand?! Freedom of speech is priceless, and no court should punish someone for speaking the truth and protesting abortion.

At the time of his release on bail on Christmas Day, Dwight had been
in jail for 50 days. For 28 of those days he was in lockdown along
with the rest of his floor, even though he had not been tried nor
convicted of a crime. No one could visit him those 28 days, and he
never got phone privileges all the time he was in jail.

Neither tried nor convicted of a crime. The police state mentality must end. Mayor Robert Garcia has said nothing, does nothing. It's OK for LGBT activists to shout and scream for their perverse behavior, but men and women cannot speak out for life?

A man protests abortion, and he goes to jail! Outrageous!

While Dwight was still in jail, the pro-lifer who wanted to bail him
out (and who wants to remain anonymous) wrote a clergyman about
Dwight’s plight and shared that Dwight would have a sanity hearing on
December 18, 2015, by court order.

This was how the clergyman responded:

“Glory to Jesus Christ! Thank you for letting us know about Dwight—We
are praying for him and for those who are PERSECUTING him. We
especially pray for him on 12/18 and for a ‘SANE’ judge to free him
from any penalty.”

At his sanity hearing on December 18th, Dwight was adjudged competent
to participate in his own defense.

Dwight’s trial was supposed to start on December 3, 2015, but when he
went to court on that date, the court re-set the trial date to January
8, 2016, to allow time for Dwight’s sanity hearing. When Dwight went
to court on January 8th, the prosecutor said he needed time to read
the pleadings that Dwight filed with the court in his own defense.
Dwight’s trial was continued to January 14, 2016.

Dwight will be in court on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in
Department 5 of the Long Beach Superior Court.

The Courthouse is on Magnolia between Broadway and Third in the City
of Long Beach.

Department 5 is on the Second Floor.

Court trials are open to the public.

Then Great News came to my ears:

Update on Pro-Lifer Dwight Monagan *

*On January 19, 2016, THE COURT DISMISSED ALL CHARGES AGAINST DWIGHT,
on the Prosecutor’s own motion.

The prosecutors backed off, and let Dwight go.

He should sue. The state owes Monagan, big time!

MESSAGE FROM DWIGHT MONAGAN

Dear Friends:

To my delight, GOD has indeed heard your prayers.  Today I got the
news that the State dropped the case against me.  I am eternally
grateful for your prayers .  Thank you.  And while there is much to be
done, the journey of a hundred miles begins with the first step.

Please pray that I will be obedient to GOD’S next step in this battle
against the horror of abortion.

Final Reflection

All men of faith and conscience must push back against these outrageous and offensive actions against our freedom of religion, speech, press, redress, and petition.

Enough is enough! Life is too precious, and liberty is worth dying for!

Thank you, Mr. Monagan, for your brave example!
