Public Smoking Ban Makes No Sense

Hermosa Beach Councilman Kit Bobko deserves to be elected again and again.

Unlike the majority vote on the Hermosa Beach City Council, Mr. Bobko has acknowledged the outrageous cost in terms of time and expense that will overwhelm a city which is in danger of not meeting its pension obligations.

A city which is learning to manage its wild night-life needs law enforcement to keep party-goers and binge-drinkers at bay, not prevent smokers from engaging in a fussy and inappropriate habit. "Self-enforcing" describes a more accurate role for the private citizen in any community. Perhaps the Hermosa Beach City Council ought to do more of the same, like minding how it spends its time and money instead of hocking moral crusades that serve only politicians looking to enter higher office.
