Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords flew to the House Chamber to cast her first vote since she was savagely attacked seven months ago.
She was in top form considering the remarkable speed of her recovery.
It was disarming how much attention the press paid to how she was dressed and how she carried herself. The medical innovations which made possible her presence there certainly deserve more praise.
The times are indeed grave, this nation is on life-support, yet to see one more person thrive in spite of the rancor which has moved zealots to lash out violently, Gifford's presence is a welcome calm in the political storm.
